Prevention
Raise blood levels prior to surgery by using Erythropoietin. This is a hormone that stimulates the bone marrow to encourage it to produce new red blood cells. Request this from your doctor at least a few weeks before surgery. At the time of surgery you will have a high blood count, which will allow for more blood loss without danger.
